KeepsakeMom, a thriving WooCommerce website, crafts custom jewelry using mothers' breast milk. This unique service necessitates a lengthy delivery period. The site uses the Porto premium theme and earns millions in sales annually.

Challenges

  • KeepsakeMom aimed to enhance customer experience by incorporating a unique Order Status design in the customer's account portal.
  • They needed to automate order statuses based on particular scenarios.
  • The required features were not inherently supported by the WooCommerce or the active Porto theme.

Solution #1 - Order Status Bar

  • Developed a unique order status progress bar in customer's portal.
  • Used steps like "Milk Kit Sent," "Milk Kit Received," etc., to offer comprehensive order updates.
  • Integrated Advanced Custom Fields plugin for enhanced status descriptions on hover.

Solution #2 - Automating Status

  • For orders where customers requested a gift wrap for the milk kit, I set the status to automatically update to "Proc/ Gift Box".
  • For international orders, outside of the USA or Canada, I set the status to automatically update to "Intl Order".
  • To achieve these I used WooCommerce woocommerce_thankyou action hook and add the code to the child theme to prevent overwrites during updates.

Results

  • The successful integration of these custom features improved the overall customer experience on the KeepsakeMom platform. Customers now receive detailed updates on their order progress, reducing uncertainty and increasing satisfaction. Furthermore, the automatic order status updates have streamlined the workflow and reduced the potential for errors.
